I knew I had a consistent, calm presence of someone who truly understood me and what I envisioned for my birth. I birthed at a hospital, where I didn’t know any of the providers, so consistency was very important. Our doula also did a lot of background “prep” and work like candles and music. I really feel like she enabled my husband and I to have the experience we wanted. She also took pictures, which was something my husband forgot to do with my C-section, and that was so important to me.

 Our doula was very supportive throughout the whole pregnancy and birth. She really supported us in what we wanted for our birth experience! Our labor and delivery went so smoothly with the calming, encouraging support of our doula. I would highly recommend having a doula!!

My doula helped me to keep my birth plan on target as much as possible. She was an excellent source of advice, encouragement, and information throughout the process of becoming a mother. She instilled in me, and my husband, a sense of calm despite the many unknowns that pregnancy, labor and delivery, and the early days of parenthood held.

This doula experience was unique to everyone involved. During a pandemic you would think that it wouldn't be as worthwhile as the "normal" days but even being my fifth pregnancy and delivery it was much more helpful than one would assume. In my case the father is absent, I am not local to any family and my friends have busy lives themselves to be fully available at the drop of a dime (or baby). Support it so important in my case, mentally and physically essential to the birth experience I knew I needed. My doula was a text or call away the entire pregnancy. When things came up she always calmed my nerves and hormones. During the laboring process she was there to advocate my wants and needs. Although my birth plan wasn't exactly how I pictured it happening due to small complications she was there along the way to assure me I was doing the best I could with what was given and what baby needed. We as parents never run the show, its always about what baby wants to do. Without doula support. I would of been alone. I would of had a more stressful experience possibly ending in a more difficult labor and delivery. I’d recommend doula services 10 out of 10 whatever your situation may be there is a place for a doulas support.
